Cinematography

The concept of cinematography intregues me greatly, as the impact a moving image can create has the ability to tell a much wider, more detailed story behind it. With using cinematography over just moving image or animation, it enables a focus to be placed on a certain feature within the scene, which draws attension to that part of the image.

Initial Ideas

Rain Pouring down bus window

Busy street but one person moving

Blowing out a candles

Guitarist in street

Tea pouring

Kitchen utensils.

Pool game

Darts

Car driving- person asleep, background moving

David tribby has used a cinemagraph to capture an ordanary event within peoples lives, but in away that keeps th emotion of that event alive. It is effective, as it stops the person at that point in time, maintinaing their expression, whilst having the movement of the candle flicker proceeding. By using a layer ,ask over the still objects, an element of surrealism is added, as usually the flickering light would reflect on the individual's face, which is what makes cinematography so unique.

I intend to create a cinemagraph similar to David Tribbys work, in order to capture a momment that would normally be either photographed or filmed, but rather be a mixture of the two. In order to portray a narriative throughout, I would like to come up wiht scenes that can be interpreted in different ways, but display a clear message throughout.

Narrative photography is the idea that photographs can be used to tell a story. Allen Feldman stated that "the event is not what happens. The event is that which can be narrated" ~ Wikipedia
