How to Create a Cinemagraph

Cinemagraphs constist of a piece of video footage being used to create a still scene with the majority of the image being a snapchot, with one element of the image moving, as it was shot in the video.  

1. Open video clip into photoshop and ensure the "timeline" baris on view.

2. Play through footage to ensure the correct length of video is available. Crop and change the speed as needed.

3. Establish which frame will be frozen during for the durtation of the video by dragging the red slider aross. Press "ctrl:shift:alt:e" to create a seperater layer of the particualr frame.

4. A new layer should appear in the layers box, along with a video group above. Change the name of the new layer to "Main Frame". Drag the layer to the top of the list, so that it is seperate to the new video layer.

5. Add a layer mask to the main layer, and begin erasing the part of the image that is wanted to be moving by clicking the mask layer and selecting the black brush tool. 

 

 

 


6. Adjust the image by changing the filters such as hue and saturation, in order to create a bold image. 

 

 

 


7. In order to save and make into a GIFF, click File:Save for Web, and then , and then ensure the drop down in t he bottom right corner says “forever”, in order for the video to repeat itself in a loop as its played.
