Final Piece

In order to create my final pice, I merged the two techniques of using Julien Douviers work on "Routine", with the cinemagraph work I recently explored. I began by converting the top video of the little girl into an animation, and reversing the scene to create the intial cinemgraph. I then went on to convert the animation into invidual video layers, to begin with the second video. Initially, I put a layer mask over the video group of the second video of the little boy running as seen below as seen below, whilst hiding the animation layers to begin work on the second video. This is where the technique of Julien Douvier was used. I measured a time of 0.6 seconds and rulured each point in which the little boy was placed at hat time. This enabled me to put layer masks over each section of the video which I copied according to the timings.

Once this had been done 11 times (creating 6 repeates of the little boy within the final image), I added layer masks over each repeated mask in different places as I had done with the tecnique used to create my Julien Douvier response. Once I had gone through this whole process again, I revealed the forground cinemagraph in order to create the final image. In order to ensure these images merged together perfectly I used a tripod and recorded each video immediatly after one another, so that it could have been occuring at exactly the same time.

Overall, this piece presents the idea of the different gender roles within childrens hobbies and behaviour. The steriotypes are true to life, whereby the girl is more adjusted to trypically feminine things, and the boy is more sporty and therefore alot more routine and fast pace  in the actions he takes. The situation of a garden is usefl, as these are both places in which it would be apporpriate for each activity to occur, however each child centers around their own activity, not becoming distracted by one another. The composition is done in a way that enables the audiance to see two differnt meanings within, due to the clear divide between both activities, which therefore brings a narrative to life.

Narrative photography is the idea that photographs can be used to tell a story. Allen Feldman stated that "the event is not what happens. The event is that which can be narrated" ~ Wikipedia
